Hauling from November through January

Written by Shamini on February 22, 2010 – 10:32 PM

Imagine the disappointment when I woke up and discovered that Mr. DHL had tried to call me while I was visiting Nemo in Dreamland? I quickly checked my tracking information, just to discover the message: “address information needed, please contact DHL”, so I did. Luckily I’m blessed with a Mr. DHL that now knows my name and where I live, so that wasn’t really an issue, but I returned his call too late to get my shipment delivered today. Bummer! But as you all know, I already have the perfect man in my life. He doesn’t only bring me roses, chocolates and jewelery – he also brings me packages, and today was no exception. He went out, collected my package from DHL, and made my Monday perfect.

Urban Decay Primer Potion

Written by Shamini on February 17, 2010 – 1:07 AM

Urban Decay Primer PotionI had honestly never heard of a primer before I started exploring the amazing world of makeup a little deeper in the end of 2008. Primer? Why on earth would one need a primer? A primer is something you use when you’re redecorating your home. Somewhere along the path of exploration something convinced me to try out a primer, although I can’t really remember what it was. Now I’ll gladly admit that I’ve become an addict.

I’m sure there are lots of different ways to apply the primer, but this is what I do. I use the applicator wand to dab a small stripe of product down the middle of both my eyelids. I then put the primer away, and use a clean finger to blend the primer all over the lid and up to the brow. I’m careful to use just enough to cover the area I want. Less is absolutely more! Remember the product is not supposed to be visible, it’s just a base for your eyeshadow. The consistency is creamy, and it’s colorless. It’s heaven in a little tube!

Unfortunately it’s not all good. Even though the tube has a very nice look, it’s impossible to get all of the product out of the packaging because of its shape. When you think it’s empty there might still be alot of product left inside the tube. Who would want it all to go to waste? Cut the tube open from top to bottom, scrape what’s left into another container, and voila! – you still have lots of UDPP to enjoy. Since I really love this product, and it really does what it’s supposed to do, I’m not going to let the packaging pull final my verdict down.

Urban Decay Primer Potion comes in three different colors:
Original, Sin and now also Eden.

The Verdict:
If you have oily lids, or if you use glasses, you might have experienced that your eye makeup crease easily, or even tend to slide off your lids after a short while. That’s exactly what a primer is meant to prevent, in addition to making the colors more vivid. And that my friend, is exactly what this primer does. UDPP Original leaves a perfect canvas which makes the eyeshadow easier to blend, and stay put all day. It also dries quickly, without leaving any color on the lid. I have seen some people complaining about the wand, but I don’t really see the problem as I mainly use a clean finger for blending it out. If you ask me, this is an absolute must-have. If you don’t already own one, run out and get it – you won’t regret it!

Say goodbye to creasing, because this stuff is the bomb!

Urban Decay “Alice in Wonderland”

Written by Shamini on January 15, 2010 – 9:26 PM

Urban Decay Alice in WonderlandToday Urban Decay finally released their brand new LE “Alice in Wonderland” palette, containing 16 of their best-selling eyeshadows, two 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils and a small travel size Primer Potion! All 16 shadows have been given new names according to the story, and the box is truly beautiful featuring “The Looking Glass” as a mirror behind Alice standing amongst mushrooms. A real collector’s item, as well as an excellent chance to get your hands on a nice variety of Urban Decays many eyeshadows.

This palette, or rather “Book of Shadows”, will only be available in the US (from today) and in the UK (in the beginning of March), so you might have to pull a few strings to get your hands on one before it sells out. I’ll be getting mine directly from Urban Decay in the US, and I hope it’ll be delivered within a few days. Heaven knows I’ll have to order another shipment from DHL as soon as it reaches my US-address, so I can start playing with it! As I’ve already stated the palette contains 16 of their best-selling shadows in the colors: Underland, Alice, Oraculum, Queen, Chessur, White Rabbit, Wonderland, Curiouser, Muchness, Mushroom, Midnight Tea Party, Vorpal, Absolem, Drink Me Eat Me, Mad Hatter and Jabberwocky. If you want the corresponding names of these shadows or more info about the palette, you can just click here.

I’m aware that many of you would say that eyeshadows from Urban Decay are way to shimmery, and I would normally agree, but I like to pair them with one or two matte shades from M·A·C to tone it down a little. I’m not very fond of shimmer and glitter, but I adore the texture and feel of all my Urban Decay shadows. I don’t have any of the two other LE “Book of Shadows” previously released by Urban Decay, but I’m in possession of the Deluxe Shadow Box, Ammo Shadow Box, Get Baked Box, Preen Shadow Box (which is the same as the Show Pony Box only with different packaging) – and I’m really pleased with all of them.

Urban Decay Big Fatty Colored MascaraIn addition to my shadow boxes I also have some of their other products, and I haven’t found anything from Urban Decay yet that I’ve labeled with “not worth buying again”. The infamous Primer Potion is an absolute must for me, and I wouldn’t dream of being without or even switching to another primer – no matter how stupid the packaging might be. The Liquid Liner is also a fantastic product, and I’ve finally (almost) mastered the perfect winged liner. Last but not least I have to mention their 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils, which is by far the best eye pencil I’ve ever spent my money on, and you can get them in a variety of gorgeous colors too. Now, Urban Decay just decided to add a promotional code as an offer to everyone ordering an “Alice in Wonderland” palette. The BOGO got me two Big Fatty Colored Mascaras in the colors “Black Cherry” and “Electric Blue”, and free shipping since I had already ordered my palette before they presented the promotional code. Awesome colors! Urban Decay rocks!

I don’t know about you, but I’ll be at the movies on March 5th for Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland!

Haul: collective

Written by Shamini on December 18, 2009 – 4:39 PM

DHL came to deliver two packages from MyUS today, and I’ve got a big smile on my face! I finally got my hands on all the items that have been accumulating at my US-address since August! One of them contained candles from Yankee Candle®, and the other one contained some goodies from Sephora! Yes.. once again I caved, and ordered a few things from Sephora. Let me just stress that this happened sometime between August and now, and not recently. I haven’t gotten around to place a shipping order before now, as I figured it would be nice to have my stuff before Christmas. I seriously don’t understand why we don’t have Sephora in Norway, we’re missing out on all the fun! The package also held the two M·A·C brushes that I ordered almost 6 months ago, that was damaged the first time I got them – and this time they were in perfect shape. Finally!

Urban Decay Get Baked

Written by Shamini on July 14, 2009 – 2:57 PM

Back in March I placed my first order with HQHair, and in the beginning of July I placed my second. I instantly fell in love with Urban Decays fancy packaging, cool products and amazing colors, but ever since I tried their Deluxe Eyeshadow my enthusiasm vanished. The reason was simply because these shadows looked stunning online as well as in real life, but when I put it on I struggled. To me it was hard, difficult to work with, not very pigmented, and I really didn’t like it at all. OK, I will admit that I only tried one of my four shades, but it totally demotivated me.

Urban Decay Get BakedLately I’ve been talking quite a lot with my sweet friend Amira in France, and she just loves Urban Decay. She told me that their regular eyeshadows are a lot better than the Deluxe ones, and that the new palette “Get Baked” is amazing. It’s buttery, really pigmented, and I must say that the colors are straight up my alley. It contains: “Twice Baked” (brownie brown w/ gold glitter), “Half Baked” (subtle, lustrous bronze), “Flipside” (electric teal w/ blue sheen) and “Baked” (rich bronze), all in the size of 1g each. Who doesn’t love brown, bronze and teal? This palette also comes with a travel sized bottle of the new Primer Potion in “Sin”, and a mini 24/7 Eye Pencil in “Bourbon”. Ever since I tried the 24/7 Eye Pencils I’ve stopped using anything else, and I just love them to death. My favorite is naturally “Zero”, which is the black one, but I can imagine that “Bourbon” will look mighty fine with my brown eyes as well.

Urban Decay offers “Get Baked” at a price of $28, which would convert into 180,- NOK according to the latest exchange rate, but again.. it’s only available to those fortunate enough to live in the US. HQHair on the other hand offers the same palette at £15, and that would convert into 157,- NOK, + £3.50 in shipping. Not bad, huh? These colors are absolutely perfect for summer, and of course the more neutral look!
