EOTD: Playing with Greens

Written by Shamini on May 10, 2010 – 2:00 AM

Eyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
M·A·C Femme Fi (highlight)
M·A·C Lucky Green (lid)
M·A·C Humid (outer third and crease)
M·A·C Feline Kohl Eye Pencil (tightlining)
IsaDora Inliner Kajal in 56 Blonde (waterline)
CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara

Brushes:
M·A·C #239 and Essence of Beauty Crease Brush Duo

I feel it’s time for another EOTD, and as I already told you I had an interview yesterday. I didn’t want to do it without any makeup on, and I also didn’t want to do anything dramatic as a purple look usually is with me. The usual brown look would be too boring, so I decided to go with my greens. I don’t know why, but I don’t reach for my green palette as often as I should. My brown eyes look nice with the green shades, so I don’t really know why I don’t experiment more outside of my personal comfort zone. Anyway, this is the look I came up with. Nothing spectacular, but it was easy and nice! I apologize for looking exhausted.

If you’re looking for a nice crease brush I highly recommend the Crease Brush Duo from Essence of Beauty. It consists of two brushes, one small and one slightly bigger, and they work excellent for highlighting your inner corner, defining the outer v and crease, and I just discovered that the larger one in the set is absolutely lovely for blending! I like it much better than the #224 from M·A·C or SS224 from Sigma Makeup, and to me that says a lot. You can order it from MakeupGeek for the price of $9.99, which is roughly 63,- NOK for two nice brushes.

EOTD: “When the Sun Sets”

Written by Shamini on February 5, 2010 – 1:20 AM

EOTD: When the Sun SetsEyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
M·A·C Femme Fi (highlight)
Sleek MakeUP Palette in “Sunset”
M·A·C Feline Kohl Eye Pencil
CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Blasting Mascara

Brushes:
Sigma Makeup SS239, SS217 and M·A·C #219

What did I do?
As usual I started off this look by priming both my lids up to the brow using UDPP. I started with the yellow shade (top row, 5th shadow from the left) and chose to concentrate it on the inner third of my lid, patting it on with the SS239. I then used the same brush for the orange shade (top row, 4th shadow from the left), using the same patting motion to place it all over the middle of my lid, blending it slightly together with the yellow. To tie everything together I used the dark red shade (top row, 2nd shadow from the left) for the outer part of my lid, and the crease. I see now from the picture that I shouldn’t have pulled the red as far in towards the inner corner as I actually did. I should also have used a more matte highlight for this look, but ended up using Femme Fi since it’s one of my favorites. Using Feline I lined my waterline halfway in, smudged it out a little with the #219, and finished off with one coat of LashBlast mascara on my upper lashes. Oh, and I used the SS217 for all my blending.

First of all I have to praise these Sleek MakeUP palettes once more. The colors are so frigging vibrant and pigmented. The three colors I chose for this look looks a little more metallic in real life than in the picture, I don’t know if that’s a plus or a minus, but I do know that I’ll be doing this look over and over again. How come I didn’t have these awesome colors when the winter almost smothered me with its depressing presence? These colors mixed together make me think of the gorgeous midnight sun that I grew up with up north. Evenings in the end of summer, sitting outside watching the sun set behind the mountains. The smell of autumn approaching, the small changes in nature, the feeling of being utterly happy and unaware of the responsibility that comes with an adult life. Memories I want to keep with me forever. Memories that make me smile.

This EOTD a tribute to Sneezingpanda!

EOTD: Neutral Purple

Written by Shamini on January 30, 2010 – 3:52 AM

EOTD: Neutral PurpleEyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
M·A·C Crème de Miel (inner half)
M·A·C Au Contraire (outer half, third and crease)
M·A·C Feline Kohl Eye Pencil
M·A·C Penultimate Eye Liner in Rapidblack
Max Factor False Lash Effect

Brushes:
M·A·C #239, #224 and #219

I’m not really sure why I’m posting this EOTD, but I kinda liked the outcome even though it looked a lot better in real life than it did on this photo. I don’t know, nothing turned out OK. I need to find some way to shoot my photos while I’m doing my makeup. Like a tripod or something, and see them on screen at once. Anyway, it looked natural with a tiny splash of color, and I’m positive I’ll recreate the same look again. M·A·C Crème de Miel has become one of my favorite natural eyeshadows, and I’m wondering if I might have to go on a hunt for a backup (it’s one of the LE colors from the Naked Honey collection). I also think that I should have pulled the purple color a little higher, but I’ll leave that for next time.

And please disregard my brows. Razz

EOTD: “Winter’s Here”

Written by Shamini on December 11, 2009 – 11:15 PM

EOTD: Winter's HereEyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
M·A·C Femme Fi (highlight)
M·A·C Electra (inner half)
M·A·C Deep Truth (outer half)
M·A·C Star by Night (outer third and crease)
M·A·C Carbon (outer corner)
M·A·C Feline Kohl Eye Pencil
Max Factor False Lash Effect

Brushes:
M·A·C #239, #224 and #219

What did I do?
First I used UDPP to prime the whole lid up to the brow. Then I patted Electra onto the inner half, and Deep Truth on the outer half of the lid with a #239 brush. I used Star by Night over Deep Truth to strengthen the color a little on the outer third of the lid. After wiping off my brush I used the same #239 to lightly pull the two colors towards one another, blending them together in the middle – decide how much of the lid you want to keep silvery, and blend according to that. Carbon is a color I rarely have the guts to pull out, but for this look I used it with a #219 pencil brush just to intensify the look in the outer corner, and smudged it a little bit along the lash line and slightly upwards in the crease. I then smudged whatever color left on the brush under the lower lash line. Blending time! With my #224 blending brush I blended out all the harsh lines, smoking it out a little. I didn’t want it too smokey, but I see now that I could have pulled the color a little more out around the eye. I highlighted my brow bone with Femme Fi, and put a tad of the same shade in the corner of my eye. I actually prefer Vanilla as it’s matte, but I completely forgot about it. I then finished it off by tightlining with my Feline eye pencil, which I absolutely love, and smudging it on about two thirds of the waterline. Then mascara, and voila!.. the new look was all done.

Sadly the photo ain’t doing it any justice, and it looks a lot better in real life. At least I’ve proven to myself that no eyeshadows are dangerous, not even Carbon, and if I take my time I can handle anything. Too bad I’m so incredibly impatient then, huh? I really, really like this look, and I should be wearing blues more often. I’ve found the perfect look for my blue dress, and if I don’t have an instant change of heart, this will be my look for Christmas Eve.

EOTD: “So Very Neutral”

Written by Shamini on November 25, 2009 – 7:42 PM

EOTD: NeutralsEyes:
Urban Decay Primer Potion
M·A·C Vanilla (highlight)
M·A·C Crème de Miel (lid)
M·A·C Espresso (outer third and crease)
M·A·C Soft Brown (outer corner)
Max Factor False Lash Effect

Brushes:
Sigma Makeup SS239 and SS224

Today I decided to try something completely new, a neutral look! If I’m doing my makeup I usually go for a look where I’ll look.. well, made up, using darker and more vivid colors than today’s choice. I chose M·A·C Crème de Miel for the lid because it has a yellow tinge to it, and I wanted a color matching my skin tone. M·A·C Espresso is a natural choice for me when it comes to a subtle matte brown, and I tried darkening the corner a little with M·A·C Soft Brown. I also decided to skip the usual kajal, and I must admit that I really like this look! It’s neutral, but still gives me the satisfaction of looking made up.
