Popcorn Indiana®

Written by Shamini on April 7, 2010 – 5:50 PM

There’s lots and lots of things going on in my life at the moment, and unfortunately I can’t share even half of it yet. I will spill my beans soon, I promise! Yesterday was one of the most awesome, but at the same time one of the saddest days I’ve had in a long time. For the awesome part I’ll tell you that we sold the Volvo 960, we rented out our parking space (since it’s too small to fit our Chrysler Grand Voyager), and I got an e-mail which made me extremely happy. If I could have I would have danced and skipped around the apartment all night, just because.

Popcorn Indiana®Now, the awesomeness didn’t stop there. I also got the sweetest tweet ever from a company in the US called Popcorn Indiana®. It was actually a pure coincidence that I discovered this brand, as I never ever buy bagged popcorn, but I found one single bag of Indiana Popcorn® Aged White Cheddar Kettle Corn at Ultra and decided to try it out. I’m a sucker for trying new kinds of snacks, and my god.. I absolutely loved it! It was fresh, crispy and sooo delicious. I went back looking for more without having any luck, so I started looking online. What else was there to do? I found that Popcorn Indiana® actually has an online store, but as many other US companies they don’t offer international shipping. By coincident (again) I discovered that they also had a Twitter account, and an ongoing contest to reveal the 2010 Final Four Flavors Champion. I cast my vote for Aged White Cheddar, since it’s the only flavor I’ve had the pleasure of tasting, but sadly it lost to Kettle Corn which was ultimately crowned champion. I started twittering with Popcorn Indiana®, which is one of the few brands on Twitter which actually replies to messages from their fans, and they told me about this new flavor called Cinnamon Sugar. Call me crazy, but seeing that I love everything cinnamon-ey it sounded extremely mouthwatering to me! Sadly it’s not yet available on their website, so I asked them how I could get my paws on the goodness. They quickly tweeted me back, informing me that Cinnamon Sugar would possibly be available in Norway some time this summer, and that they had more awesome news for me – this is the message I received: “Since you’ve QUICKLY become one of our favorite Twitter friends we’re going to get you some Cinnamon Sugar EARLY. Check your DMs!”.

This is by far the nicest thing any company has ever done for me! I’m so grateful and honored that they would do such a thing for an ordinary girl living in a far, far away little country called Norway. I’ll keep you posted, I promise you there will be pictures and a thorough review shortly after arrival.

It’s not my place to talk about the sadness of yesterday, but my heart goes out to you.
My deepest condolences. I’m so, so sorry. Heart

Unpacking. Huh?

Written by Shamini on March 9, 2010 – 12:42 AM

I’ve had a really productive day already. The time is only 3:57 PM and I’ve done a lot of things. I woke up a little before 9:00 AM, and that’s a first for me! The weather has been very shifting, from sunny to rainy to minor blizzard. Fascinating. First I had a meeting with two caseworkers from the local authority concerning my personal assistance. I really dreaded it. I don’t know why, it was more a formality than anything else, but I have such bad experience with the local authority from back home. I’m always anticipating a knife in my back the second I turn around – not a very healthy attitude, but it’s the bad experience I tell you. The meeting went well, or at least I think it did, and as I already knew it was mostly a formality. Feels good to have it out of the way, so the next thing on my agenda is to try to obtain an answer regarding my “little secret”. God, I hate waiting. I can’t understand why everything has to go so slowly? I need an answer, damnit.

Apart from all that we’ve finally managed to clear the living room of boxes. Yes, after living here for seven months we still had three cardboard boxes standing behind the couch, and they’ve been bugging us both for a long time. Now they’re all gone, and everything that was in them has either been thrown away, or put in its correct place. I even found my two Guinness mugs which I bought when I was in Dublin in 2006! Sometimes I think it would have been better just to throw away the boxes without looking in them first, but I would be throwing away a lot of things with memories attached to them – and I couldn’t handle that. I’m a collector, or maybe a hoarder rather. Let’s just blame it on the fact that I had to move from a house to an apartment, downgrading my space, which meant a lot less room to clutter up. And I’m not even a fan of knick-knacks, trinkets or ornaments!

It’s been a long day, so I’m going to bed.
Happy 17th birthday, Aleksander! Best wishes on your day. Smile Heart

Who invited Jack Frost?

Written by Shamini on February 9, 2010 – 9:38 PM

I’m feeling so restless I could die. On the other hand I don’t feel like moving at all. Dilemma. This weekend our elevator stopped working, apparently after being serviced, and caused a lot of distress for all the older people living in the building. I was planning on going to a dog show this Sunday, but I didn’t feel up to it, so the elevator crisis didn’t really concern me. See, our apartment is on ground floor, but there’s still a small flight of stairs from the entrance to our front door. No biggie, really. It’s still nice to have a functional elevator, just in case.

Outside the sun is actually gracing us with a guest appearance! I’m intrigued. I’m so sick of Jack Frost, with his cold breath, icy touch and the continuous snowing. I know, I’ve said. It’s just that I’m longing to go outside again, without having to plan it according to the weather forecast. I need some light, some sunlight, some temperature. God, I wish I could just jump on a plane.. to Greece! Or somewhere else, as long as it’s warm and exciting. Come to think of it, Greece isn’t really warm this time of year. I know, I was in Crete in March a couple of years ago. It’s pretty depressing having to wear the exact same (warm) clothes in Crete as you would at home.

This is me doodling.

Oh, I almost forgot. On Friday we had company, all three of us! Monica came to see us with her two wonderful Chihuahua females, Zita and Lizzi. We hadn’t met Monica before, only spoken on MSN and via a forum for Chihuahua owners and breeders, so it was really nice to finally get the chance to meet her face-to-face. Theo seemed to really appreciate having two girls over and willingly shared everything he had, even his food and goodies. I think he fell deeply in love with Lizzi, because he just couldn’t leave her alone! At first he seemed a little stressed out over these two unknown and fearless ladies, but you could clearly see how much he wanted to join in on their play. After a little barking and a few insecure jumps back and forth, he slowly figured out that they weren’t scary at all, and after that he seemed to really enjoy their company. This was an excellent opportunity for Theo to spend more time with other dogs his own size, socializing a little, and it’s enjoyable to watch these cute little creatures interact with each other. I hope we can meet again soon!

“Those who mind don’t matter”

Written by Shamini on February 3, 2010 – 11:27 PM

Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Theodor Geisel (Dr. Seuss)

I think I have to stop having opinions about everything. Or at least stop sharing my opinions with people. Seems like some people think it’s rude to have other opinions than themselves. Gah, I’m so sick of people. Why the hell do they insist on occupying a space on the Internet if they don’t have the ability to accept advice, and listen to other people’s opinions without taking it as a personal insult? I’m not out to insult anyone when I share my opinions on the web, I’m just looking to share experiences, something I would be grateful for myself. Maybe I should just stop commenting in other blogs, and stick to my own, maybe that would be better. At least here I can act like a bitch if someone tells me that they disagree with me, and kick their asses. Literally. When I grow up I’ll write and pass a law that will ban certain people from using the Internet at all. Now, that will be the day!

Tonight I’ve made a serious (and kinda scary) decision about my upcoming future. It was difficult to land upon the final decision, but when it was done I felt relief. That’s the feeling I was going for, right? Relief? Felt good. Like a ton of bricks had been lifted of my shoulders. Oh, I see. Maybe I finally managed to follow my gut feeling, and this is what it feels like? I’m not gonna tell you what I’m talking about today, maybe next week. I just want it to be a done deal before I spill my little secret.

FUTILE comments!

Written by Shamini on January 27, 2010 – 6:21 PM

Who would have thought, another “Say WHAT?” post already! I’m frequently visiting a fair amount of blogs, either by people I know personally or blogs I’ve ventured upon from reading comments, and apparently there’s a new amazing phenomenon going around. The new, hot thing amongst “the cool kids” is to leave comments on all available blogs saying: “Please come to my blog and leave a comment!”, or even “I’m having a blog versus blog challenge, and you can win a link from my blog!”. What is this? Is there some stupidity contest going on that I’m unaware of? Can someone please enlighten me?

Believe me, if you come to my blog to enter a completely idiotic comment about me visiting your blog I’ll be sure not to visit you, or even promote your blog by keeping the comment available to my viewers. Not going to happen, sorry. Save your time and energy to write some real blog posts for your own blog, and try to compose comments related to the post you’re commenting on instead of spamming crap. Just think about it. If you have the need to promote your own blog in such a manner, maybe you should just rethink your attempt as a blogger? Now I’m sure I’m gonna get a few “humorous” comments with the intention of annoying me, but if I know you.. I know where to find you, so don’t even think about it.

Annoyed? HELL YES!
