Haul: Nordstrom, Sephora and NARS

When I was bored I used to shop to console myself. Then I started shopping when I was feeling down to make myself feel better. Now I'm not sure why I shop anymore, but I really enjoy waiting for Mr. Postman or Mr. DHL, for unraveling what's hiding inside bubble wrap and cardboard, and to behold the beauties unveiled. Yep, I'm a classic shopaholic. Although it might sound quite materialistic.. my stuff really makes me happy, and I need this kind of happiness in my life as long as my body keeps pulling all kinds of nasty tricks on me.

Now it's time to share another haul, a collective one, which Mr. DHL brought me in mid-October. If you don't care much for haul posts or the likes of it, you might as well stop your reading here. As I've done earlier I've decided to break this haul into two parts, where this post is the first one out. Please note that this is indeed a collective haul, which means that everything has been purchased over a certain period of time - in this case, about four months.

Dazzlesphere! Dazzlesphere!

I happened to go to M·A·C a week before Christmas, and look what just happened to follow me home: two of the three Dazzlesphere! Ornaments from the holiday collection, namely Smoky Blue and Smoky Plum. And here I was, swearing that I wasn't going to pick up any of them as I didn't like the swatches I'd seen on other blogs. Everywhere I see people calling them cute, speaking fondly of the "fantastic" packaging, but frankly.. I'm afraid I fail at recognizing the awesomeness in a semi-large plastic sphere? Am I missing something? Can it actually be used for something? My guess is it'll sit on a vanity or desk, collecting dust.

These sets are the same Crushed Metallic Pigments as the ones released with M·A·C Spring Colour Forecast and Surf Baby!, which is a set of four corresponding pigments in one stack. As I was standing there, speaking with one of the makeup artists, I swatched a few of the colors in the purple stack on my hand. Just for the fun of it. And I liked them quite a lot. I have to be honest about Light Violet in the purple stack being quite useless, and I kinda have the urge to throw it out because of its lousy quality. It's impossible to swatch, impossible to work with, impossible to stick to the skin, just.. impossible. I do on the other hand like the rest of the colors, and I'm wondering if I should have picked up the third sphere Smoky Berry as well, just because of the dark strawberry color called "Spicy Smoke". It's such a beautiful color! As I recently saw someone else saying: one should have been able to mix and match these stacks oneself. Unfortunately they are quite pricey in Norway, so I won't be getting the third ornament unless I'm able to get it from the US at retail price before it's gone. If you poke around the internet you'll find a lot of different opinions on which of these kits are the best of the bunch, but I'll have to say that my personal favorite must be Smoky Blue. For some odd reason it actually reminds me of a wintery fairytale, giving me a fuzzy feeling.

Sadly I'm not half as intrigued by the collections M·A·C keep pushing out as I used to be, so most things just pass me by unnoticed. I've stopped keeping track of release dates. I already own a lot of stuff from M·A·C (from older collections), but I don't have the urge to own every single piece released anymore. I guess the magic has gone, and I honestly feel a little sad about it. I don't understand what the people behind M·A·C are thinking, but the constant price increase, the insanely expensive "special" collections, the downsizing of actual product, the diminishing quality - what is going on when not even repromotes have the same color payoff and quality as the original product anymore? - is not making me wanna buy more, it's making me stray away from the brand that used to be my very favorite, feeling nothing but cheated and ripped off. It's been a nice few years, M·A·C. I hope we can rekindle our passionate relationship some other time.

KICKS to Trondheim!

A few days ago a good friend of mine told me on Twitter that KICKS had opened up a store inside Byhaven, here in Trondheim. I've been dreaming of going to a KICKS for a long time, but the closest one to us is in Steinkjer, or Åre in Sweden. We don't visit either place very often, so I never had the chance - until now. I dragged Øyvind with me to Byhaven to have a look, and the place gave me tiny little Sephora vibes as I entered. Since it's fairly new there were a lot of boxes everywhere, and they had stacked lots and lots of gift sets on the floor, so it was kinda hard to maneuver between everything. I'm always scared senseless of knocking something over in stores like that! I didn't see many customers there, although I think I counted six employees, which resulted in several may I help you's while I was trying to browse one of the more interesting isles. A little bit annoying, but I guess I would rather meet helpful employees than the more arrogant ones who seem to have a lot more important things on their minds than actually working.

The main reason why I was so interested in KICKS was the fact that they sell cosmetics from the Swedish brand Make Up Store. We already have a Make Up Store boutique here in Trondheim, but as I've ranted about before they have chosen to remain inaccessible to wheelchairs users, which is why I've been carrying out my own little boycott. I mean, surely we are in 2011, no? Apparently there's still not room for everyone. I've been lusting after a few products from Make Up Store for a while now, so I wanted to see if KICKS had what I was looking for. Unfortunately they didn't have any of their Eye Dusts as of yet, and I didn't really fall for any of their eyeshadows, but I did however pick up three of their Eye Pencils: Duchess, Golden Days and Dusty Smoke. All three are of the kind 'Soft Metallic', and incredibly soft and creamy.

I also wanted to join the KICKS Club to start collecting points, but apparently they were all out of applications so I was unable to receive a card, and my 405 points. Had I known I could register online I would have before I left home, or even in-store via my iPhone. Oh well. I'm quite positive I'll be going back to KICKS when the store is a little more settled in.

Haul: Travalo Excel

Have you ever heard of Travalo? I hadn't either until I watched a video by gossmakeupartist. It's a refillable perfume atomizer bottle spray - you just fill it up with your favorite perfume, and it's perfect to carry with you everywhere. It's even aircraft approved, which is genius. To be honest I had forgotten all about ordering a Travalo Excel, so I was quite surprised when a padded envelope arrived for me.

I totally love the idea! You just remove the nozzle of your favorite perfume, and fill up your Travalo by pumping it up and down on the tube. When it's full it contains more than 65 sprays, and you can easily see how much is left in the fill level indicator window. The Excel also comes in a 'crystal case' to protect it when you're carrying it around in your purse, or wherever.

Travalo Excel

I wasn't really planning on ordering one, but when I noticed that Travalo donated money to the fight against breast cancer for every pink atomizer sold during October, I decided to order one after all. It cost £12.49, which would be about 113,- NOK with today's exchange rate plus international shipping of 23,- NOK. I ordered on a Wednesday, the package was shipped on the follow Thursday, and eight days later it arrived in my mailbox.

Since I have a few perfumes to choose from I haven't quite decided which one to fill my Excel with, but I'm so happy I don't have to bring any glass vials or bottles with me the next time I travel. I also asked Travalo a question about using the same atomizer with several fragrances, and they recommended using one atomizer with one perfume since it's impossible to clean it in between fragrances. I was thinking that it might be a fun way to mix perfumes, and make your own personal fragrance?
